Message Packed up the Zs, said a few goodbyes.

Conversation just before we left:

Me: "So, I've noticed 129 is twistier to the right, and you wanted to get a photo of some place we saw on the way in, and so did I, so we're going back that way, right?"

B: "Right."

Me: "Great."

So we get to 129, and what does Bernie do but turn right.

For those who haven't been, once you do that, you're committed to the Dragon. There's really nowhere to stop, nowhere to turn around. You just go. And go we did, with me strong-arming it through all the turns and cursing Bernie's name.

From Killboy:

Sorry, all you cars stuck behind me!

From US129Photos:

Finally the road straightened out and opened up a bit and a nice wide pull-off came up and we pulled up alongside each other.

Me: "You realize you turned right."

B: "Yeah, sorry 'bout that." Pause... "But hey, now you get to say you did it."

True. 8)

Most of the way back, the power steering wasn't an issue. In fact, I forgot about it on the highways till we'd go to exit, then suddenly be reminded. It was a long day on the highway, but I had good tunes, mostly good weather, and good road company.

Who was this, following us out towards Knoxville?

Yay, rain. But not for too long:

Chester and the Blue Ridge Mountains:

Ever enjoyed a drive so much that, even though it's long, you don't really want it to end? Well, when faced with the choice of splitting off by myself back home or sticking with B to deliver Dad, I chose the latter. And was rewarded with this - just as the sky was getting dark, I wondered what this band of pink was:

But then the colors intensified:

Nice. I've never seen a rainbow so late in the day. It was a full double arch, so big I couldn't fit it all in one shot, and since I was driving, no panoramas. But there you go.

A beautiful end to a great trip:

It was great to see those I saw again, and I'm serious - next year we need to figure out how to get the tt.net-ers together! I like to put faces to names. =)

My collection of photos from the event is on my website.

See you there next year!!

I was previously a aviation mechanic and avionic technician and this car is harder to work on than Aircraft.
